Nambung National Park more commonly known as "the Pinnacles" is another of Nature's treasures with its ancient limestone peaks jutting from the sand after the sea receded 25-35,000 years ago. the Nesting Galahs were an added bonus as the sun lengthened the shadows.

Deserted
One of the reasons I love Australia so much is the sense of space we have....almost everywhere...with our deserted white sand beaches, amazing forests of towering karri trees with barely a person in sight and roads that seem to stretch for infinity.
The first shoots
The vines in Margaret river are just beginning to shoot their new canes for the season, turning the rows a verdant green.

Lookout!
The giant Karri trees near Pemberton (likely to be over 250 years old) have been fire look outs for the last 80 years and provide a perfect vantage point from which to spot the first sign of smoke in this dense forest.
Amazingly in this nanny country of ours, we were still allowed to climb these, with gaps between the pegs easily big enough for a child to fall 100s of feet to their death.
We climbed all 3 of them 75mts (the Dave Evans Bicentennial tree), 65mts (the oldest Gloucester tree), and 56mts (the Diamond tree) and even the kids survived.
Luckily our most serious injury was still muscles.

It's Election time
The country headed out to vote today and it was mixed messages with a swing towards liberal but away from Abbot, Greens up in some states and down in others and Labour generally on the nose everywhere. Winners (due to quirky Senate preference laws) were the independents.

Happy Father's Day
Perfect weather...warm with sunny, blue skies, complimented with a bike ride past whales and surfers alike basking in the glorious waves at Middleton and lunch with friends.
Hope you enjoyed the day as much as me Andrew.

Cannoli
Slavka's first attempt at home made cannoli.
Not bad. It reminds me of the "old days" when we made and filled brandy snaps with thick sweetened cream.
Ah those days when you didn't have to think about calories.

Floral dancer
Looking like a flamenco dancer or a prima ballerina this beautiful Rhododendron is just bursting into bloom.

Soccer or St Andrews
When Andrew mentioned that he was REALLY unwell during Bodhi's soccer match in the Parklands, it was just a quick step across the road to StAndrew's Hospital and an exciting few hours spent in Casualty investigating arrhythmia.
Luckily he was allowed to escape when a heart attack was eliminated as a likelihood.

Homeless
Camping in the parklands would not be much fun at this time of year, but the remnants of people's overnights here remain as proof.

Le raclette
Just a few kilos of smelly hard swiss cheese, a handy dandy cheese grill, a few more kilos of boiled potatoes, some shaved serrano ham or beef, cornichons and pickled onions and VOILA....you're ready for raclette.

Spicey
How does this Moroccan spice seller get his spice cones so high. Having tried it at home I know he must be cheating.

National Emblem
This is the wattle
it's the emblem of our land
you can stick it in a bottle
or you can hold it in your hand.
Amen!
